Fourth International Day of Yoga celebrated at IIITG

The Fourth International Day of Yoga was celebrated with much fanfare at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG). Two programmes were organized to celebrate the International Day of Yoga at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati: a practical Yoga Session was organized for faculty, staff, research scholars and students of IIITG on the morning of 21 June, 2018 in the IIITG premises. Smt Sumita Bhattacharya and her team (Karyakartas of Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, VKIC, Guwahati) led the Yoga session which followed the Common Yoga Protocol laid out by Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. The Yoga session ended on a very positive note with the participants interacting with the Resource Persons of VKIC and asking questions pertaining to the significance and practice of Yoga.

An academic event was also organized as a post event for International Day of Yoga: a lecture on the topic ‘Healing Techniques in Yoga’ was organized at IIITG on 22 June, 2018. Shri Dipankar Mahanta (Executive Member of Vivekananda Kendra Institute of Culture, Guwahati and renowned Social Entrepreneur) delivered the lecture which was attended by faculty and research scholars of IIITG and members from VKIC Guwahati. It served as an apt intellectual orientation and academic event post the Yoga session on 21 June, 2018 for IDY. The said lecture was organized under the Perspective Lecture Series of IIITG.

It is to be noted that since 21 June falls during the summer vacation for BTech students at IIITG, most of them were not available for the IDY celebrations. Despite that, there was a healthy turnout of participants in the Institute and the Fourth International Day of Yoga was celebrated very successfully at the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati.
