JRF + PhD Admission in CSE (October 2022)

Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) in the following areas of research:

ELIGIBILITY

Applicant must fulfil both of the following criteria:

  1. Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant area (CS/IT/ECE/EE) with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks
  2. Selected through either GATE or NET.

  1. Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology (CS/IT/ECE/EE)  or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 65% of marks.
  2. Selected through either GATE or NET.
                                                                                                                                    OR 
      1.   MSc (CS) / MSc (IT) /MCA or equivalent Non-Tech Master’s Degree with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.
      2.  Selected through either GATE or NET  in CS/IT.

Note:  For a candidate who has qualified GATE, it is not necessary that his/her GATE score is valid at the time of admission.

RESERVATIONS

(SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and PD categories): Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants. Reservation is as per GOI rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose a certificate and self-declaration statement as per the format in Annexure-I & Annexure-II. The OBC (NCL) Certificate, issued by the competent authority, on or after 01-06-2020, shall only be acceptable.

FELLOWSHIP

For P1: Rs. 31,000 per month from DST, Govt. of India till the project ends. HRA will be provided at 16% of the basic salary and medical benefits for Rs.5000 per financial year. After the project ends, the student will receive a fellowship from the institute as per the institute norms  
For P2: Rs. 31,000 per month from DST, Govt. of India till the project ends. Medical benefits for Rs.5000 per financial year will be provided. After the project ends, the student will receive a fellowship from the institute as per the institute norms
For P3: Rs. 31,000 per month from DST, Govt. of India for the first two years and Rs. 35,000 per month for the subsequent year upon satisfying the criteria for the increase. Additionally, HRA will be provided at 18% of the basic salary and medical benefits for Rs.5000 per financial year. After the project ends, the student will receive a fellowship from the institute as per the institute norms..

THE SCHEDULE AND THE PROGRAMME
  1. Admissions will be held based on applications received. The last date of receiving the application is extended till 22-11-2022 (Tuesday).
  2. Date of selection in online mode is 26/11/2022 (Saturday).
  3. Shortlisting will be done based on the availability of seats and the academic performance of the candidates. A candidate merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria may not be shortlisted.
  4. Mode of interview: Online.
  5. There is no application fee
  6. Course Requirements, if any, will be prescribed by individual Departments. But students will be encouraged to take courses. The Doctoral Committee of a student will evaluate the preparedness of a student and prescribe one or more courses that will have to be taken.
  7. There will be a written comprehensive examination after admission to determine if the student is ready to take up research work and to determine if the student has sufficient breadth of knowledge in the discipline to which he/she has been admitted.

*The candidate needs to pay the hostel and mess fees only when a student joins a hostel. Hostel rent will be charged on a pro-rata basis (semester of 6 months with a charge of 12,500/- for the whole semester) based on when the student joins a hostel.
