PhD ADMISSION AUGUST 2020

Applications are invited for admission to the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme beginning in August 2020. The disciplines in which these programmes will be offered are: Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE), Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) and Mathematics. THE SCHEDULE AND THE PROGRAMME

i.           Admissions will be held based on applications received. The last date of receiving application will be 17-7 -2020 (Friday).

ii.         Date of Selection in Online Mode for All Disciplines: 7-8-2020 (Friday)      

iii.       Shortlisting will be done based on the availability of seats and academic performance of the candidates. A candidate merely fulfilling the eligibility criteria may not be shortlisted.

iv.       There will be no support for travel for the interview.

v.         There is no application fee.

vi.       Course Requirements, if any, will be prescribed by individual Departments. But the students will be encouraged to take courses. There is no residency requirement for part-time students.

vii.     There will be a written comprehensive examination after admission to determine if the student is ready to take up research work and to determine if the student has sufficient breadth of knowledge in the discipline he / she has been admitted to.

 

CATEGORIES OF STUDENTS
i)   Regular

A student in this category works full-time for his/her PhD degree.  He / she may get a fellowship / assistantship, or may be self-financed. 

ii)  Sponsored (full-time)

A student in this category is sponsored by a recognized R&D organization, academic institution, government organization or industry for doing research in the Institute on a full-time basis. He / She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. The Institute does not provide any assistantship/fellowship to such a student. Sponsorship letter must be attached with the application.

iii)  Part-time

A student in this category is a professionally employed person, who pursues the PhD Programme while continuing the duties of his/her service. He / She must be a regular employee of the sponsoring organization with at least one year of professional experience in the respective field. A No Objection Certificate from the Head of the Institution/Organisation in which He / She is employed must be enclosed at the time of application.  

 

 

 

ELIGIBILITY

For admission to the PhD Programme in various disciplines a candidate must satisfy the following criteria:

CSE and ECE

i)       Master’s degree in Engineering/Technology in the relevant area with a minimum Cumulative Performance Index (CPI) of 6.5 or 60% of marks.

OR

ii)     Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Medical Sciences or equivalent in a relevant area with a minimum CPI of 7.0 or 65% of marks.

Mathematics

i)       MA/ MSc/ MTech in Mathematics with atleast 60% marks or a CPI of 6.5.

HSS

i)       Master’s degree in English/ Economics with at least 60% marks or a CPI of 6.0.

ii)     Candidates with MPhil degree/ NET-JRF will be given preference.

For candidates with a B.Tech / MA / MSc, preference will be given to those who have cleared GATE / NET/ JRF.

RESERVATIONS (SC, ST, OBC (Non-creamy layer) and PD categories): 

Eligibility criteria will be relaxed by 5% marks or 0.5 CPI for SC/ST/PD applicants. Reservation is as per GOI rules. OBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates will have to enclose certificate and self-declaration statement as per format at Annexure-I & Annexure - II. The OBC (NCL) Certificate, issued by competent authority, on or after 01-06-2019, shall only be acceptable.

SUBMISSION

Interested candidates are requested to apply by filling up the prescribed form available HERE and sending it electronically to acadphd@iiitg.ac.in.  Please note that there is a limit on the email size that can be received (20MB), so please send your application form in the first email and the attachments in subsequent emails if the size exceeds 20 MB. Self-attested copies of all degrees and mark sheets must be enclosed. GATE / NET score card copy must be enclosed. The application form should be filled in the Word File template provided and should not be scanned. This is to reduce the size of the application and to enable us to extract information easily. You can sign the application form when you come for admission.
