WHO WE ARE About IIIT Guwahati
Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG) is an institution of National
Importance under an Act of Parliament (THE INDIAN INSTITUTES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
(PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP) ACT, 2017). It offers B.Tech. courses in Electronics and
Communication Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science Engineering (CSE), and runs PhD programmes
in ECE, CSE, Mathematics, and Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). M.Tech. programmes in CSE
and ECE are starting from July 2018. IIITG started operations in August 2013 with B.Tech
programmes in CSE and ECE. The first batch of B.Tech. students completed their programme in May
2017. The first convocation of the Institute was held on May 15 2018. IIITG strives to be
attentive to academic needs of every student. Classes are conveniently scheduled between 9 A.M.
to 5 P. M. Every class room is air-conditioned and has projection facilities. An Institute-wide
Wi-Fi system provides Internet access throughout the institute.
Mr. Satyabrata Dey, Chairperson ,Managing Director, Sreeleathers Ltd., Kolkata is the Chairman of the Board of Governors. Prof. Sarat Kumar Patra, the director of NIT Agartala, is the Director incharge of the Institute.
The Institute shifted to its campus on July 2 nd , 2018. The campus is located on a 67 acre
plot, 4 km from Guwahati airport, on the National Highway. There is a 500 seater Boys Hostels
and a 100 seater Girls’ hostel. There are 48 flats for faculty. A 9200 sqm Academic-cum
Administration building houses all the Institute’s activities. Besides these buildings, there is
a treated water supply system, an electric substation with backup generators, and a
decentralized sewage disposal system.
